With over three decades of experience, Mehmet Kalkavan has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee for BNP Paribas Cardif Turkey. This esteemed institution is recognized as a leader in Turkey’s protection insurance sector, specializing in life insurance and personal pension systems (PPS).
Mehmet Kalkavan is an accomplished insurance professional who has notably held senior managerial positions across both public and private sectors, actively contributing to the industry’s development. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences and a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from Boston University’s Metropolitan College.
Mr. Kalkavan embarked on his career journey in 1993 at the Insurance Supervisory Board under the Undersecretariat of Treasury, where he played a pivotal role in the regulatory and supervisory processes of insurance companies. From 2004 to 2009, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the Insurance Supervisory Board. Following this, he took on the roles of Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General at the Association of Insurance, Reinsurance, and Pension Companies of Turkey, where he guided the sector’s governance processes.
Between 2009 and 2015, he continued to influence the industry as the Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General at the Insurance Association of Turkey. He further contributed as the General Manager of the Turkish Insurance Institute Foundation from 2015 to 2024. In 2024, he joined Türk Reasürans A.Ş. as the Head of Internal Systems, a role he held until 2025, where he spearheaded strategic initiatives for insurance and reinsurance activities, focusing on the establishment and management of risk management, internal control, and compliance systems.
Beyond these roles, Mehmet Kalkavan has also served as a board member in several key national and international organizations, including the Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (TCIP), Agricultural Insurance Pool, Insurance Arbitration Commission, and Insurance Europe, thereby making significant contributions to the sector’s growth and governance.
