ISTANBUL, Türkiye — Doğal Afet Sigortaları Kurumu (DASK) has completed 26 years of operations, reporting more than TRY 42 billion in total claims payments since it began operating on 27 September 2000.
According to figures released by DASK, the institution has received 891,774 loss notifications linked to 1,403 earthquakes and has made payments on 701,696 claim files during the period.
DASK currently provides financial protection against earthquake risk for 11,710,514 homes through Zorunlu Deprem Sigortası.
DASK fund size reaches TRY 30 billion
The institution said funds generated from policies have reached TRY 30 billion. Its portfolio is supported by reinsurance protection and, when required, state support.
DASK stated that the combined financial structure is designed to provide capacity for losses from two major earthquakes occurring within the same year.
Technology and data use to expand
DASK has also continued to develop its operational infrastructure in policy issuance, claims management, digital services and inter-institutional data sharing.
DASK Genel Sekreteri Balkır Demirkan said the institution plans to make greater use of artificial intelligence in claims assessment and to use land registry data more effectively in policy issuance. DASK is also working on additional e-Devlet services, including policy renewal reminders and ownership verification through TCKN-based land registry checks.
Demirkan also underlined the importance of renewing existing policies as well as expanding insurance penetration across Türkiye.
