Combining cutting-edge artificial intelligence with environmental commitment, Anadolu Sigorta demonstrates how technology can work hand in hand with nature to protect Turkey’s forests. Its Eyes of the Forest documentary project, now in its fourth episode, brings audiences closer to the reality of modern forest protection. Guided by renowned actor Toprak Sergen, this journey begins in Istanbul and stretches across the diverse landscapes of Muğla, Kastamonu, Denizli, Bilecik, and İzmir, capturing the dedication of foresters and the silent strength of smart observation towers.

Within Anadolu Sigorta’s sustainability framework, Eyes of the Forest stands out as a pioneering initiative that reflects both technical sophistication and environmental awareness. Created in partnership with the General Directorate of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the project embodies collaborative effort on a national scale. Each stage of the documentary highlights humanity’s ongoing responsibility for the natural world, showcasing how data, sensors, and constant vigilance shape a new defense system for Turkey’s green heritage.

Technology Meets Nature’s Heart

In this latest installment, the audience witnesses firsthand how AI-powered surveillance systems detect and alert authorities to potential fires, enabling prevention before disaster strikes. Each observation tower, stationed strategically across Turkey’s most vulnerable regions, forms part of a vast network of guardians that never sleep. Helicopter footage and dynamic visuals accompany Sergen’s narration, revealing the delicate interplay between human effort and automated intelligence.

These state-of-the-art observation towers not only identify forest fires in real time but also assist in preventing illegal logging, unauthorized construction, and poaching. Moreover, they act as communication anchors for remote areas, maintaining constant contact with field teams and ensuring rapid coordination during emergencies.

Impact and Achievements

Since the first unmanned tower was installed in Adana in 2022, sixteen more have joined the force, monitoring an impressive 812,700 hectares of forest land across the country. Thanks to this coordinated system, 241 forest fires have been detected and contained in time, demonstrating the practical success of innovation-driven environmental protection.

The list of successful interventions includes 55 in Adana Balcalı, 54 in Antalya, 20 in both Adana Zorkun and Çanakkale, 29 in Bursa, 13 in Muğla, 28 in Istanbul, 8 in Mersin, 12 in İzmir, and individual actions in Bilecik and Kahramanmaraş. Beyond numbers, these efforts signify the empowerment of communities and professionals to preserve the ecological balance.

Voices of Leadership and Hope

Berna Semiz Ergüntan, Anadolu Sigorta’s Corporate Communications and Sustainability Coordinator, underlined the social significance of the initiative, stating that technology has become a tool of environmental stewardship. According to her, early identification and prompt response remain key to mitigating the growing threat of wildfires. She emphasized the organization’s pride in blending insurance, social benefit, and environmental ethics under a single holistic vision.

Beyond innovation, this project symbolizes a collective consciousness that unites engineers, foresters, and citizens through a shared mission—protecting life itself. It not only prevents forest destruction but also nurtures awareness of how every spark and breeze is intertwined with human decisions.
