Introducing Accessibility Search on Steam

In a significant move toward inclusivity, Valve has unveiled a new feature allowing users to search for games and applications on Steam by accessibility options. This update is set to make navigating the vast Steam library more intuitive and user-friendly. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting development.

Enhanced Accessibility Search Functionality

Introducing Accessibility Search on Steam

With this new feature, finding a game or application that meets specific accessibility needs will become significantly easier. Currently, over five thousand games and applications support this functionality. However, it’s crucial to note that developers and publishers will have the autonomy to decide whether they want to include accessibility details for their titles. This decision is pivotal in determining how accessible a game is to potential players with different needs.

Additionally, information regarding a game’s accessibility features can now be found on the right side of each game’s store page. This new feature has been developed based on extensive feedback and aims to standardize accessibility options across the platform.

Four Key Accessibility Categories

The new system categorizes accessibility features under four main headings: gameplay, visuals, audio, and controller. Within these categories, users can filter for specific options such as adjustable difficulty settings, comprehensive subtitle options, voice acting for menus, and controls tailored to different preferences.

As mentioned earlier, more than 5,000 titles have already embraced this integration, and it is anticipated that this number will continue to grow, further enhancing the accessibility of the Steam platform for all users.
