In a significant advancement for China’s space program, the China National Space Administration has announced the successful launch of a new satellite. This satellite, deployed via the Long March-2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center located in the country’s northwest, has been successfully placed into its designated orbit.
The satellite, named after the illustrious Chinese inventor Zhang Heng, who created the world’s first seismograph approximately 1,800 years ago, is expected to bolster China’s capabilities in early warning and monitoring of large-scale natural disasters.
With a design life span of six years, the satellite is equipped to observe global electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic waves, the ionosphere, and the neutral atmosphere in near real-time. Its mission includes detecting geological and anthropogenic electromagnetic anomalies. Additionally, it will play a crucial role in monitoring storm and lightning activities, thereby enhancing disaster preparedness and response strategies.
