A social media account linked to China’s state broadcaster has disclosed that China intends to align its strategy in response to upcoming U.S. tariffs in collaboration with Japan and South Korea. This strategic alignment aims at enhancing dialogue on supply chain cooperation and export control, while expediting discussions towards establishing a trilateral free trade agreement.

Japan and South Korea are planning to source certain semiconductor raw materials from China. In turn, China expresses interest in importing chip products from Japan and South Korea. This mutual interest was highlighted following a meeting of senior trade officials from the three nations, marking their first economic dialogue in five years.

Strengthening Regional Prosperity

The nations released a joint statement affirming the necessity of trilateral efforts in economic and trade arenas to bolster both regional and global economic stability. They reiterated their commitment to advancing negotiations for a trilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA), a process that has stalled since 2012.

This meeting occurs in anticipation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming announcement on Wednesday, coinciding with Independence Day. President Trump is expected to unveil a comprehensive set of higher tariffs, justified as a means to address trade imbalances and restore manufacturing jobs within the United States.
