ToggleIn recent years, the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events caused by climate change have significantly impacted agricultural production. In Antalya — known for its intense greenhouse cultivation — heavy rainfall triggered devastating floods and flash floods in multiple districts. Following the disaster, TARSİM teams immediately began on-site assessments to evaluate the extent of the damage and ensure swift payments to insured producers.
According to official data released by the institution as of January 21, a total of 2,287 damage reports were submitted under the State-Supported Greenhouse Insurance program. These included:
• 1,218 cases of flooding and water damage,
• 202 storm-related losses,
• 191 tornado incidents,
• 634 hail reports,
• and 42 cases of snow load damage.
Throughout 2025, a remarkable 3.8 million agricultural insurance policies were issued across all branches of the State-Supported Agricultural Insurance System. During this period, insured producers paid 20.1 billion lira in premiums, while the state provided 25 billion lira in premium support, protecting agricultural assets worth approximately 1.7 trillion lira. In total, 35 billion lira in compensation was paid to producers and breeders for their damaged crops, greenhouses, and livestock.
TARSİM emphasizes the importance of farmers taking proactive measures against natural disasters by obtaining insurance coverage. Producers can secure their greenhouses and crops through authorized agents affiliated with participating insurance companies. Before taking out insurance, all relevant facilities and products must be accurately registered in the databases of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
Greenhouse insurance covers a wide range of risks including hail, fire, storm, tornado, landslide, earthquake, vehicle collision, snow load, and flooding. It also includes coverage for debris removal costs. Producers can easily report damages within 24 hours via the official ALO TARSİM 172 Call Center, the TARSİM mobile app, or directly at www.tarsim.gov.tr.
All damage assessments are carried out by expert surveyors assigned by TARSİM. Once verification is complete, payments are directly transferred to the insured producer’s bank accounts within 30 days. Farmers are advised to carefully check the insurance acceptance deadlines listed for different crops on the TARSİM website to avoid missing critical coverage dates. While crop insurance follows specific deadlines, livestock and greenhouse policies can be issued at any time throughout the year.
When finalizing a policy, experts recommend that producers pay attention to crucial details such as product yields, unit prices, and harvest dates. Consulting with insurance agents helps clarify coverage details and ensures that farmers understand the process and necessary steps in case of damage.
With growing climate uncertainties, agricultural insurance offers not just protection but also resilience for the future of farming in Turkey.
