IBS Insurance and Reinsurance Brokerage, a prominent entity in the insurance and reinsurance industry, recently organized a pivotal event focused on sustainability and green energy. Hosted on May 28 at the Hyatt Centric Hotel in Istanbul, the “Green Energy, Renewable Energy and Sustainability Summit from an Insurance and Reinsurance Perspective” explored key themes shaping the sector’s future. The event gathered investors, insurance professionals, and academics to deliberate on the role of insurance solutions in supporting renewable energy initiatives.
In his opening remarks, Murat Çiftçi, CEO of IBS Insurance and Reinsurance Brokerage, highlighted the indispensable role of insurance in the green transformation. “Building investor confidence in transitioning to a low-carbon economy hinges on securing projects through insurance guarantees. We back this transformation with a diverse range of solutions, from engineering insurance to environmental risk policies,” he stated.
The summit featured comprehensive presentations from leading industry experts on sustainability, risk management, and renewable energy. Güven Fidan, CEO of Alkazar, captivated the audience with his talk titled “Sustainability in the Face of Climate Change and its Reflection on the Renewable Energy Sector.” Evrim Atalaş from Rönesans Holding shared insights on “Tomorrow’s Winning Strategies in Insurance,” while Erdem Vitrinel from Swiss Re elaborated on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and risk acceptance processes.
During the panel discussions, Ülkem Devrim Aksar and Doğan Zorlu from IBS Insurance, alongside Atilla Zorkirişçi from Axa Insurance, examined “Transfer Stages of Renewable Energy Risks.” Haluk Karabatak, a Board Member of Philips Turkey, contributed with his presentation, “Sustainability in the Energy World,” and Sinem Tekçe, partner at SnT Consultancy, addressed the question, “Why and How Sustainability?”
The summit concluded with a consensus that Turkey’s burgeoning investments in renewable energy can achieve greater momentum with robust insurance solutions. Attendees concurred that the insurance sector serves not merely as a financial safeguard but as a strategic ally in sustainable development.
