Meta has launched the Aria Gen 2, marking the second iteration of its cutting-edge research augmented reality glasses. This new model builds on the innovations of its predecessor, appealing particularly to specialists in artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine perception. The design overhaul makes the glasses notably lighter, featuring foldable arms and offering eight distinct sizes to accommodate diverse facial structures.
The camera technology has seen substantial advancements: now equipped with four computer vision cameras, these sensors are adept at capturing high-quality images in both low-light and extremely bright conditions. Depth perception is significantly enhanced, with the stereo field between the two cameras nearly doubling.
Another standout innovation is the inclusion of specialized sensors integrated into the nose area. These include an ambient light sensor, a contact microphone for superior voice recording in noisy settings, and a PPG sensor capable of monitoring heart rate. This comprehensive array of hardware enables real-time analysis of environmental and biometric data during research activities.
Time synchronization has been refined with hardware-assisted precision. The prior software-based pairing system is now replaced by a more accurate radio-based mechanism. Moreover, a dedicated Meta processor embedded within the device allows for executing machine perception tasks like eye and hand tracking directly on the glasses.
Meta is set to showcase the Aria Gen 2 at the CVPR conference this month, with the application process scheduled to commence later in the year.
