Ubisoft’s Strategic Shift: Delays and New Horizons

Ubisoft is navigating through a transformative phase aimed at overcoming the challenges it has faced in recent years. This period has been marked by a reduction in workforce, the cancellation of multiple projects, and the initiation of a partnership with Tencent. The latest development in this ongoing process was revealed in Ubisoft’s recent financial report, which announced significant delays in the release of major titles, including those from the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry franchises.

Postponement of Major Titles

Ubisoft has confirmed that the development timelines for the upcoming installments of both the Far Cry and main Assassin’s Creed series have been extended. According to internal reports, the anticipated new entry in the Far Cry series is now slated for a late 2026 release. Similarly, the Splinter Cell Remake, codenamed “North,” and the forthcoming Ghost Recon game, designated “Ovr,” are also experiencing delays.

These strategic decisions highlight Ubisoft’s transition away from focusing on short-term objectives, opting instead for long-term growth and sustainability. While the company plans to release fewer AAA titles during the 2025-26 period, this strategy is expected to bear fruit in the fiscal years of 2026-27 and 2027-28.

In addition to major releases, Ubisoft has not neglected smaller projects within the Assassin’s Creed universe. Noteworthy among these are the multiplayer-focused “Invictus” and the “Obsidian,” a remake of Black Flag. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Six franchise is set to expand with a new, more compact entry titled “Slice and Dice.”
