TSB enhances cooperation with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to boost the insurance sector and strengthen regional partnerships.


At the invitation of the North Cyprus Insurance and Reinsurance Companies Association, representatives of the Turkish Insurance Association (TSB) carried out a series of productive meetings in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Discussions primarily focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in insurance and reinsurance, with an emphasis on boosting resilience to disasters through improved financial and structural frameworks.
The visit was headed by TSB President Uğur Gülen, joined by board members Ahmet Yaşar, Neslihan Neciboğlu, Erol Öztürkoğlu, and Secretary General Özgür Obalı. The delegation met with Börte Barlasoğlu, President of the TRNC Insurance and Reinsurance Companies Association, and his team to exchange perspectives on joint initiatives aimed at fortifying the insurance ecosystem.

ToggleDuring their stay, the delegation was received by TRNC President Tufan Erhürman, who expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts between the two organizations. President Erhürman received an overview of ongoing insurance and reinsurance projects and acknowledged their value in strengthening the financial system. The parties explored new avenues for cooperation under the framework of the Turkish States Insurance Union, an organization where TRNC holds observer status.
Uğur Gülen highlighted that consistent collaboration with their Cypriot counterparts has yielded significant outcomes in knowledge transfer, disaster preparedness, and elevating public awareness regarding the role of insurance in economic stability.
Further meetings were held at the TRNC Ministry of Finance’s Currency Exchange and Development Fund Directorate, along with detailed exchanges at the TRNC Insurance and Reinsurance Companies Association. These sessions addressed current sectoral structures, regulatory frameworks, and potential joint projects that could enhance operational efficiency and financial resilience.
The Turkish Insurance Association reaffirmed its commitment to deepening ties with the TRNC and continuing to foster a sustainable and disaster-resilient insurance ecosystem. Through stronger regional collaboration, both countries aim to improve insurance awareness and develop robust protection mechanisms against future risks.
