Discover the upcoming Smart #2 Electric City Car debuting at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, showcasing innovation and urban mobility.
Smart’s upcoming electric city car, the Smart #2, created through a collaboration between Geely and Mercedes-Benz, is set for its first public presentation at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April. The model, which will be produced in China, is planned to go on sale in both the Chinese and European markets by late 2026.

The Smart brand has been jointly operated by Geely and Mercedes-Benz since 2019 under a 50-50 partnership. Based in Ningbo, China, the company’s current lineup consists of the Smart #1, Smart #3, and Smart #5 models.

Initially introduced in China in September, the Smart #2 represents the fourth fully electric model from the brand and marks its highly anticipated return to the compact car category. Company representatives confirmed that a prototype nearing production stage will be showcased at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The new car will use Geely’s ECA platform.
The vehicle features a two-door, two-seat configuration. While its technical infrastructure is supplied by Geely, the exterior styling is designed by the Mercedes-Benz design division. Development work on Smart #2 is almost complete, with camouflaged test units seen undergoing trials in December 2025. Brand executives previously noted that crafting a micro-class car posed greater challenges compared to designing larger vehicles, yet they emphasized this model’s commercial viability for European markets.
According to statements released in December 2025, serial production of the Smart #2 is expected to begin within a few months. Following its prototype reveal, market launch is anticipated soon afterward. Spy images indicate the Smart #2 preserves familiar design traits reminiscent of the gasoline-powered Smart ForTwo — such as short front and rear overhangs, oval headlights, and proportionally large wheels.
Available information suggests the Smart #2 will include a rear-mounted electric motor and a battery with roughly 30 kWh capacity. The vehicle is reported to measure about 2.7 meters in length and have a 1.9-meter wheelbase. This new model is expected to boost Smart’s overall sales, particularly within China’s growing electric car market. Company data show that Smart delivered 30,799 vehicles across China in 2025 and currently operates in 39 markets globally.
