Speaking to reporters outside Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, where Manisa Metropolitan Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek is undergoing treatment, Özel expressed gratitude to those who traveled from across Turkey to offer their support to Zeyrek and his family. He emphasized the relentless efforts of healthcare workers to save Zeyrek’s life, despite suggestions for his transfer to another facility. Özel stated, “We place immense trust in our local healthcare providers at Celal Bayar University Hospital. The current and former Ministers of Health, alongside numerous hospital chief physicians, have extended their support and advice. After thorough consultations, it has been determined that all possible measures have been taken, and there is no necessity for any transplant. Both Zeyrek and the CHP family are adhering to this medical guidance.”
Response to Israel’s Actions Against the ‘Madleen’
When questioned about Israel’s attack on the civilian ship “Madleen,” which was on a mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, Özel affirmed, “We have our compatriots Özlem and Şuayip aboard. I regard Şuayip as a close ally, and I am deeply concerned for Özlem’s safety as if she were my own child. I urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to disclose the measures taken concerning these two Turkish citizens. What is the current status of the ship and its activists following the Israeli operation? I expect a firm stance against Israel’s actions and a show of solidarity with Palestine on the global stage, rather than mere reassurances of ongoing negotiations.”
Condemnation of Israel’s Humanitarian Blockade
Özel criticized Israel’s prevention of 12 unarmed activists from delivering basic supplies like pasta to Palestine, highlighting, “There is an outrageous level of aggression from Israel, even against the delivery of humanitarian aid like pasta. I stand with President Erdoğan in this matter, endorsing his strong and unequivocal position. We must oppose any actions that embolden Israel and abandon Palestine. Now is the time to unequivocally support Palestine and challenge Israel’s oppressive actions, rather than turn a blind eye.”
