Nintendo’s Latest System Update and Subsequent Fix

The release of Nintendo’s system update 20.0.0 earlier this week introduced a significant issue for certain users. Following the update, which introduced notable features like the innovative “Virtual Game Cards”, some Switch consoles encountered a bootup error, rendering them unable to start properly.

Nintendo's Latest System Update and Subsequent Fix

In response to the swiftly identified problem, Nintendo rolled out version 20.0.1 today to address this issue. However, affected users cannot install this update automatically due to the “2206-1015” error code that prevents the system from booting normally.

To resolve this, Nintendo provided instructions for booting the Switch into a special mode to manually install version 20.0.1. Users must completely power off the device and then power it on while simultaneously pressing the volume up and volume down buttons. This procedure will initiate “Maintenance Mode”, from where the system update can be manually applied.

The release notes for version 20.0.1 focus solely on resolving this specific bug. Users who successfully installed version 20.0.0 without issues are not required to update to 20.0.1. However, those experiencing the error code must follow these steps to restore functionality to their consoles.

Nintendo advises users who continue to face the same error or encounter new issues after the update to reach out through official support channels. While system stability has been restored with this update, Nintendo has committed to exercising greater caution to prevent similar disruptions in the future, ensuring a better user experience.
