ToggleNintendo has set a bold target for its upcoming Switch 2 console, aiming to sell 15 million units globally by March 2026. This ambitious goal mirrors the initial sales of the original Switch, despite the new model’s higher price point. While the company’s recent financial report indicates a decline in hardware and software sales, expectations are high for a significant rebound with the launch of the new console.

Scheduled for release on June 5th, the Switch 2 will have 10 months to meet its sales target. Nintendo is also projecting sales of 45 million Switch 2 games within the same timeframe. However, the company hasn’t completely turned away from the original Switch, setting a goal to sell an additional 4.5 million units and over 100 million games in the next year. These figures fall short compared to last year’s sales of 10.8 million consoles and 155 million games.
The original Switch made a remarkable impact, selling 17.79 million units in its first 13 months after its March 2017 release, surpassing expectations. To date, it has sold over 150 million units, nearing the record held by the DS as Nintendo’s best-selling console.
Despite the steep price of $450 in the US and €470 in Europe, the Switch 2 is generating significant excitement. The console witnessed 2.2 million pre-orders in Japan and quickly sold out when pre-orders were available in the US.
