Explore the Nintendo Switch 2: Release Date, Price, and Features
Earlier this year, Nintendo electrified the gaming community with the announcement of its highly anticipated Switch 2 console. Today, we delve into the exciting details revealed during the exclusive Nintendo Direct presentation held on April 2, 2025. The Switch 2, priced at $449.99, is set to hit the shelves on June 5, 2025.
Specifications and Features
Boasting a 1080p resolution screen with a maximum refresh rate of 120 FPS, the Switch 2 promises a visually stunning gaming experience. The TV dock supports up to 4K resolution, offering HDR connectivity for an enhanced viewing experience.
The Joy-Con controllers of the Switch 2 magnetically attach to the console and can function as a mouse in compatible games. A built-in speaker, microphone, and noise-canceling technology ensure clear audio, while 3D audio support enhances immersion, even with standard headsets. A USB Type-C port facilitates camera connections or charging.
With 256 GB of storage and backwards compatibility, the Switch 2 will also feature upgraded editions of older games under the ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ label, offering improved graphics and performance.
Game Lineup and Special Features
The presentation unveiled a stellar lineup of games, including Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and more. Existing game owners can upgrade to the Switch 2 versions for a fee.
The mysterious C button on the new console has been revealed to activate the GameChat feature, allowing voice chat using the built-in microphone. The GameChat menu also supports screen sharing and video chatting, though a separate camera purchase is required for video calls.
GameShare emerges as a standout feature, enabling players to broadcast compatible games over public networks for shared gameplay experiences, even if friends don’t own the game.
The games will be categorized into three groups: exclusive Switch 2 releases, backwards-compatible titles, and upgraded editions bearing the ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Edition’ label.
Nintendo also announced backwards compatibility with GameCube titles for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members, allowing access to classic games from 2001 and beyond.
Accompanying the launch is the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour app, designed to showcase the console’s innovative features. Additionally, two new controllers compatible with Switch 2 will be available, echoing the design of the classic GameCube controller and featuring the C button.
