Egypt Reaffirms Support for Lebanon Amid Ongoing Israeli Occupation

ff

During a joint press conference held in Cairo, Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly made strong statements addressing the continuing Israeli occupation of certain areas in southern Lebanon. He asserted that Israel must fully withdraw from the five hills it currently controls in Lebanese territory, stressing Egypt’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Madbouly expressed solidarity with Beirut, declaring, “Egypt stands firmly with Lebanon in its efforts to defend its land and national dignity.” He condemned the Israeli attacks on Lebanese soil and described them as clear violations of international law and regional stability. Despite a partial withdrawal by the Israeli forces, their presence in five key strategic positions remains a central issue fueling tensions along the border.

Strengthening Cooperation Between Egypt and Lebanon

The Egyptian leader also highlighted the progress made in bilateral relations, noting that a memorandum of understanding had been signed between the two governments to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors. Madbouly emphasized that these agreements would be swiftly implemented, with particular focus on initiatives designed to boost economic exchange and trade.

He pointed out that while the economic situation in Lebanon has deteriorated due to intensified attacks, there remains significant room for cooperation. Trade between both countries reached approximately $1 billion in 2024, and Madbouly expressed confidence that this figure could easily be doubled through new initiatives.

Rebuilding Lebanon with Egyptian Assistance

Addressing the ongoing reconstruction needs in Lebanon following Israel’s strikes, the Prime Minister affirmed Egypt’s commitment to contributing to rebuilding efforts. He mentioned that Egyptian companies are ready to assist with expertise, infrastructure projects, and technical support to help Lebanon recover from the devastating damages.

In closing, Madbouly revealed his plans to visit Beirut later this year as part of Egypt’s ongoing mission to deepen diplomatic and economic ties with Lebanon and to reaffirm Cairo’s regional role in promoting peace and cooperation.
