Supported by Türkiye Sigorta, the 7th International Resilience Congress took place in Elazığ, hosted by Fırat University. The event, uniting experts and stakeholders, delved into disaster preparedness, risk mitigation, and the creation of resilient communities. Alongside this, Türkiye Sigorta furthered its social initiatives by opening a specially designed classroom for children with autism at İsmet Paşa Primary School, in cooperation with the Tohum Autism Foundation.
Taha Çakmak, CEO of Türkiye Sigorta, emphasized the necessity of preparedness against natural disasters, noting that Turkey’s location on active fault lines makes this a collective responsibility rather than a choice. He expressed his pride in returning to his hometown of Elazığ for such an event, stating that the discussions held at the congress would contribute greatly to building a disaster-resilient future.
During his address, Çakmak underlined Türkiye Sigorta’s dedication to not only restoring economic balance after major disasters but also strengthening societal resilience. He noted, “Insurance goes beyond economics; it represents our promise to safeguard lives and rebuild stability.” He extended hope that the congress in Elazığ would inspire broader progress in the field of disaster management and sustainable recovery.
On the second day of the congress, Çağrı Akpınar, Deputy Technical General Manager of Türkiye Sigorta, presented during the ‘Resilience and Business Continuity’ session. He revealed that after the February 6, 2023 earthquake, the company received over 52,000 claims across 11 provinces and disbursed 6.5 billion TL in total compensation. These payments included 1.8 billion TL for residential losses, 4.2 billion TL for commercial fire damages, and 220 million TL for vehicular coverage. Additionally, Türkiye Sigorta provided hundreds of earthquake victims with temporary shelter and launched the ‘Tek Yürek Building and Property Insurance’ initiative to address long-term housing needs.
Akpınar further highlighted that within three months, the company had settled 99% of personal and 95% of business claims, proving its commitment to quickly healing the wounds left by disasters while sustaining community trust and stability.
In addition to its disaster relief efforts, Türkiye Sigorta expanded its support into the education sector through the ‘Every Class a Seed’ social initiative. By partnering with the Tohum Autism Foundation, the company established a fully equipped special needs classroom at İsmet Paşa Primary School. This initiative ensures that students with autism receive the resources and environment they need to thrive academically and socially. Two additional classrooms were also renovated and handed over to the school’s students, demonstrating Türkiye Sigorta’s belief in equal opportunities for every child.
Through these initiatives, Türkiye Sigorta continues to set an example of socially responsible leadership—merging financial strength with a compassionate mission to support communities before, during, and after crises.
