Just last week, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman indicated that the rollout to free users would be postponed due to greater-than-anticipated interest. However, the company quickly adjusted its strategy to accommodate the high demand, enabling broader access to the feature.
For those using the free version, a daily limit of three images has been established. It’s worth noting that some accounts may experience a stricter limit of just one image per day. Additionally, users might face waiting periods ranging from a few minutes to several hours per image generation request, due to limited processing capacity at OpenAI.
One of the most favored applications of this tool is its ability to transform real photographs into Studio Ghibli-inspired artworks. Users can upload photos and use natural language commands to craft images in this distinctive style. This trend, however, has reignited discussions around the legal and ethical concerns of training AI models with copyrighted materials.
In a recent social media update, Altman acknowledged that the tool might still exhibit bugs and some image requests could be unnecessarily rejected. OpenAI is actively working on these issues. While the company promises to take ‘necessary steps’ for images violating policies, specific details about these measures are yet to be disclosed.
