Discover Meta’s latest video editing app ‘Edits’, designed to empower Instagram creators with advanced tools for stunning content creation.
Earlier this year, the digital landscape experienced a shakeup when TikTok and other ByteDance applications were briefly pulled from Apple’s and Google’s app stores. Seizing this opportunity, Meta revealed its plans to introduce a new video editing application specifically designed for Instagram creators. The result is Edits, a sophisticated tool launched to attract creators amid the uncertain future of TikTok.
Edits sets itself apart by offering more advanced editing tools compared to those in Meta’s existing suite of apps. Creators can shoot videos up to 10 minutes long using the in-app camera, ensuring enhanced quality when posting to Instagram. The app also includes a variety of popular editing effects, such as green screen capabilities and access to Instagram’s extensive music library.
In line with Meta’s emphasis on AI technology, Edits boasts several AI-enhanced features. The Animate feature allows users to transform static images into dynamic videos, while the Cutouts feature empowers video creators to isolate specific individuals or objects with precision tracking. Unlike ByteDance’s widely-used CapCut editor, Edits exports videos without any watermarks, which aligns with Instagram’s practice of making videos with visible watermarks less prominent.
Despite Edits launching after CapCut’s resurgence in the US market, Meta has introduced unique Instagram-specific features to entice creators of Reels. These include in-app post analytics and the ability to import previously recorded audio tracks directly into the app.
In its official statement, Instagram refers to this initial launch of Edits as a ‘first step’. The company aims to collaborate with creators to develop more tailored functionalities in the future. Edits is available for download on both the App Store and Google Play, offering users easy access to the new tools.
