Yılmaz Yıldız, the CEO of Zurich Insurance Group Turkey, recently participated in the UN Global Compact HUB and Leaders Summit, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Known for his leadership in sustainable development, Yıldız actively contributed as both a speaker and a jury member.
Addressing the panel on Mobilizing Capital for Climate Action, Yıldız underlined the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a roadmap for businesses. He stressed that modern leadership should focus not only on financial achievements but also on generating value for all stakeholders.
During the Leaders Summit, Yıldız evaluated global teams who dedicated the past nine months to crafting innovative ideas aligned with sustainability goals. As a jury member, he examined the potential impact of each entrepreneurial endeavor on the business world and society.
The Role of Insurance in Sustainable Development
Yılmaz Yıldız elaborated on the insurance industry’s pivotal role in sustainable development during his panel discussion. He explained, “The UN Global Compact is about responsibly shaping the future. As participants in the Hub and Leaders Summit, discussing ideas is incredibly rewarding. Sustainability and the SDGs extend beyond business concerns to societal responsibilities, encompassing concerns for the planet and future generations.”
He further identified the four contributions of the insurance sector to sustainable finance: insuring direct investments, evaluating risk to minimize loss, driving innovation through new products and services, and managing significant portions of the world’s financial assets. Yıldız emphasized that these initiatives position the insurance industry as both a supporter and leader in sustainable transformations.
Yıldız concluded that the mission is to leverage these insights and contributions to foster value for all stakeholders, reflecting a new era of success in business.
