Google’s New Minimum Requirements for Android 15

Google has made a significant move regarding the Android operating system by upping the minimum hardware requirements for Android 15. This advancement means that devices with limited capabilities will no longer have the option to update. Notably, Google services will not function on smartphones equipped with less than 6GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

New Storage Threshold for Android 15

According to Google’s latest announcements, manufacturers aiming to run Android 15 must now provide at least 32GB of internal storage in their devices. Furthermore, it is stipulated that 75 percent of this storage will be allocated for the system and user data. By way of comparison, the storage requirement for Android 13 was set at 16GB.

This increase in storage prerequisites is intended to enhance user experience and ensure system stability. However, it could potentially signify the end of software updates for older devices.

Changes in RAM Requirements

There is also a noteworthy shift in RAM requirements according to Google’s current system policies. While 4GB of RAM remains adequate for Android 15, this benchmark will rise to 6GB with the introduction of Android 16. Consequently, devices with less than 6GB of RAM will need to transition to Android Go Edition. Furthermore, models with 2GB of RAM or less will no longer have access to Google Mobile Services (GMS).
