The upcoming BYD pickup has been fully unveiled through a recent patent submission to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), dated October 23. The registration provides a clear look at the production-ready design and structural details of BYD’s new entry into the utility segment.

Unlike traditional body-on-frame pickups, this model features a monocoque or unibody construction, blending passenger car comfort with light-truck versatility. Its proportions and styling cues strongly resemble the BYD Song Plus — known in Europe as the Seal U — suggesting that this pickup is derived from that SUV platform. Notably, the front fascia, fenders, and door geometry showcase remarkable similarity, reaffirming its crossover-based origins.

New Structural Design and Styling Direction

With a short cargo bed and sculpted side profile, BYD appears to be following a similar design philosophy to Hyundai’s Santa Cruz. This approach caters to buyers seeking flexibility for both urban commuting and light-duty hauling, rather than purely off-road performance. The use of a unibody platform could also enhance handling precision and ride comfort, setting it apart from traditional ladder-frame pickups.

The patent filing further indicates that BYD plans to introduce this model globally, targeting key markets across Europe, Latin America, and Australia. Positioned below the Shark 6 lineup, it will serve as an accessible entry-level option in BYD’s expanding utility vehicle range. While full technical details remain undisclosed, industry insiders anticipate a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) configuration. The dual caps for fueling and charging—petrol filler on the left fender and charge port on the right—reinforce this expectation.
