ToggleAXA Turkey continues to build partnerships with athletes who promote social awareness and inspire the community, in line with its brand purpose of protecting what matters most to people for the advancement of humanity. As part of this approach, the company has signed a Value Partnership Agreement with open water swimmer Tuna Tunca.
Tuna Tunca and his mother Gülnur Tunca were welcomed at a special event held at AXA Turkey headquarters. AXA Turkey Values Partner and national ultra-marathon swimmer Bengisu Avcı also attended the event as a surprise guest.
As an athlete with autism, Tuna Tunca has achieved remarkable success in open water swimming. He describes the sea as not only a sporting field but also a place where he can express himself and find his rhythm. Representing the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club, Tunca became the first male swimmer with autism to complete a solo swim across the English Channel. Later, he successfully swam across the Strait of Gibraltar, gaining international recognition in the open water swimming community. Through his achievements, Tuna Tunca continues to serve as a role model in both sports and neurodiversity awareness.
AXA Turkey CEO Yavuz Ölken highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating: “Tuna’s story is a powerful example showing that passion and determination know no bounds. His dedication to the sea has been the driving force behind his journey. At AXA Turkey, we take pride in supporting stories that inspire and create value in line with our brand purpose.”
Gülnur Tunca, Tuna’s mother and biggest supporter, expressed: “Autism and the sea are two strong elements in Tuna’s life that mutually empower each other. The sea is where he feels free and secure. In the water, Tuna finds his rhythm and reveals his potential naturally. His journey, which began with coach Mert Onaran, shows the transformative power of neurodiversity when matched with the right environment.”
Bengisu Avcı, AXA Turkey’s value partner and national swimmer, added: “Open water swimming requires both physical and mental endurance. Tuna’s connection with the sea and his determination reflect the true spirit of this sport. His story reminds us that limits are often mental and that belief makes anything possible.”
AXA Turkey will continue supporting athletes who contribute to the future, promote social awareness, and inspire others through value-driven collaborations.
