Apple has traditionally unveiled its new iPhone models simultaneously, as seen with the iPhone 16 series, which was officially launched and made available in September. However, recent reports indicate a significant shift in strategy for the tech giant. According to The Information, which gathered insights from sources well-acquainted with Apple’s plans, the company intends to stagger the release of new iPhones starting in 2026. Instead of a simultaneous launch, new models will be rolled out in two separate phases throughout the year. This change has been corroborated by three independent sources within Apple’s supply chain.
It is anticipated that in the iPhone 18 series, the premium Pro models will debut first, with their release slated for the autumn, maintaining Apple’s traditional launch timeline. Meanwhile, the more affordable standard models are expected to hit the shelves in the following spring. This approach is likely to be part of a broader strategy, especially as Apple is developing a foldable iPhone. The inclusion of a foldable model could expand the product lineup, making it logical for Apple to stagger launches over the year.
This revised release strategy is also poised to invigorate iPhone sales year-round, particularly benefiting the standard model. In recent years, the Pro models have overshadowed their standard counterparts in terms of sales. By launching these models at different times, Apple potentially enhances the appeal and market performance of the standard version, which may have otherwise been overlooked.
