FSR 4: AI-Powered Precision and Clarity

The release of FSR 4 marks a significant milestone in AMD’s super-resolution journey, integrating a sophisticated AI/ML-based algorithm. This enhanced model offers sharper and more precise images across all performance presets, representing a substantial leap in quality from previous iterations. AMD has confirmed that on June 5, 2025, FSR 4 will be available in over 60 games, with seamless upgrade paths for existing FSR-supported titles.

Introducing the FSR Redstone Update

AMD’s new suite, named “Project Redstone”, builds upon FSR 4’s foundation, introducing three AI-driven features. The Neural Radiance Caching (NRC) employs an AI model that learns and predicts the reflection of light within scenes, caching indirect lighting to alleviate the performance demands of ray tracing. This technology significantly enhances visual quality, particularly in AAA titles featuring ray tracing.

Ray Regeneration, designed to rival Nvidia’s Ray Reconstruction in DLSS 3.5, reconstructs missing or untraceable ray data, delivering more lifelike reflections and details. An AI model cleans up grainy ray-traced images and reproduces missing pixels in real-time, greatly enhancing reflection clarity, especially when combined with super resolution.

Furthermore, AI-assisted frame generation introduces a new ML model that surpasses the traditional interpolation-based frame generation of FSR 3. By analyzing temporal and spatial data, it inserts new frames between existing ones with improved accuracy and quality. This system promises a frame rate boost similar to Nvidia’s RTX 40 series, offering smooth gameplay without compromising on visual fidelity.

With the FSR Redstone update, AMD positions itself as a formidable competitor to Nvidia’s DLSS 3.5 and DLSS 4 technologies. The new systems leverage artificial intelligence across ray tracing, super-resolution, and frame generation to optimize both performance and realism.

Introducing the FSR Redstone Update

Initially, FSR Redstone will be exclusively compatible with graphics cards featuring RDNA 4 architecture. However, there is potential for broader compatibility in the future as the technology evolves.
