YouTube Music Introduces Banner Ads for Free Users

YouTube Music’s New Advertisement Strategy

While a YouTube Music Premium subscription offers numerous advantages, a large number of listeners opt to enjoy music, podcasts, and other content for free. To capitalize on this, Google has been monetizing its free YouTube Music users through skippable video ads that appear between tracks. Recently, the company has introduced static banner ads on the Now Playing screen as a new revenue-generating strategy.

Details of the Banner Ads

According to a screenshot shared by a YouTube Music user on social media, these banner ads are strategically placed between the album artwork and the song title. Instead of displaying the album cover, an image marked “Sponsored” is shown in the bottom left corner. The progress bar turns yellow, and the ability to advance or skip tracks is temporarily disabled during the ad display.

This new ad format may be connected to the ongoing testing of the updated Now Playing design, which has been in the works for several months but has yet to be implemented for all users. Consequently, most users with the existing controls are not experiencing these ads at the moment.

For those interested in an ad-free experience, YouTube Music Premium is included with the YouTube Premium membership. The subscription prices are set at $79.99 for individual accounts, $159.99 for family plans, and $52.99 for students monthly.
