Google is rolling out new features to elevate the experience of watching YouTube on television screens. These updates are designed to make the YouTube app on smart TVs and gaming consoles more user-friendly and engaging.
Dedicated Sections for Different Content Types
YouTube has introduced several new sections on the home screen to enhance content discovery. Notably, there’s a ‘Continue Your Search’ area which displays your last three searches for easy access. Music enthusiasts will find the ‘Listen Again’ section handy for replaying favorite tracks, along with a ‘Live Performances, Remixes, and Covers’ section showcasing diverse versions of songs.
Moreover, content from ‘Your Favorite Channels’ and a section for ‘Primetime Channels’ are available for subscribers. Podcasts now have their own dedicated tab, providing effortless access to your favorite series. Additionally, Shorts videos have been distinctly separated from long-form content, appearing under the ‘What’s Next’ and ‘Subscriptions’ tabs.
Enhanced Viewing and Discovery Features
The viewing experience has been refined significantly. While looping was previously limited to playlists, users can now loop all VOD content by selecting the Loop option in the Playback Settings.
Channel previews have been upgraded with the official introduction of ‘Impressive Channel Previews’. This feature offers expanded inline previews on channel, subscription, and topic pages, complemented by full-screen background and video previews in channel headers.
New Analytics Feature for Creators
YouTube has unveiled a ‘Device Type’ card in YouTube Studio Analytics, tailored for content creators. This tool allows creators to analyze watch time across four device categories: mobile, PC, TV, and tablet, providing valuable insights for optimizing content strategy.
