Ukraine Prepares to Finalize Strategic Mineral Resources Pact with the United States

Ukraine is poised to finalize a crucial mineral resources agreement with the United States, a move that could be formalized as early as this evening, according to a source within the Ukrainian government.

Ukrainian officials are optimistic that this agreement, which has the backing of US President Donald Trump, will serve to reinforce the waning support from the American administration.

Reports indicate that Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister, is currently journeying to the United States to sign this pivotal agreement. Earlier on April 18, both nations signed a memorandum of understanding, setting the stage for this forthcoming agreement focused on the development of Ukraine’s mineral resources. This memorandum outlined an ambitious goal to conclude negotiations by April 26 and to execute the agreement promptly thereafter.

Subsequently, on April 20, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal revealed that both parties had reached a consensus: previous US aid to Ukraine would not be included within the scope of this mining agreement.

During an official visit to the US last week, Shmygal held discussions with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. He noted the “good progress” being made towards finalizing the agreement. Shmygal further emphasized that clear red lines had been established, asserting that the agreement must fully adhere to Ukraine’s commitments to the European Union and align with national legislation.
