The Uncertain Fate of Yennefer in The Witcher 4

In a recent conversation with Eurogamer, Denise Gough, the voice behind the iconic character Yennefer of Vengerberg from The Witcher 3, revealed her uncertainty about reprising her role in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4. As CD Projekt Red pushes forward with development, which was accelerated last November, the game is speculated to launch around 2027 at the earliest.

The details surrounding the new installment remain sparse. What is known is that The Witcher 4 will carry the narrative torch from the preceding trilogy, with Ciri stepping into the spotlight as the lead protagonist. Fans will be pleased to hear that Geralt will make a return in some capacity and will once again be voiced by the beloved Doug Cockle.

Yet, the question of Yennefer’s role in the new game lingers. Despite being one of the pivotal characters in the Witcher saga, alongside Geralt and Ciri, her involvement remains a mystery. Denise Gough, who also stars as Dedra Meero in the Star Wars series Andor, has expressed that she is just as in the dark as the fans, having received no communication about voicing Yennefer once more.

Reflecting on her unexpected rise to fame following The Witcher 3, Gough shared her initial bewilderment: “I didn’t even know what I was doing. I had never been part of a video game before. Then, suddenly, crew members from sound departments on film sets would approach me and ask, ‘Are you Yennefer?’ And I’d think, ‘Who is Yennefer?'”

As of now, Yennefer’s future remains uncertain, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further announcements from CD Projekt Red.
