Renowned for acclaimed titles such as Until Dawn and The Quarry, Supermassive Games has decided to cancel development on an unannounced Blade Runner game. The abandoned project, tentatively named Blade Runner: Time To Live, was envisioned as a ‘character-driven, cinematic, action-adventure’ experience aimed at next-generation platforms including PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and future iterations of Xbox and PlayStation systems.
This ambitious single-player adventure was scheduled for a 2027 release and promised a compelling 10-12 hour storyline. Players would have assumed the role of So-Lange, portrayed as the last surviving Blade Runner in the year 2065. The narrative aimed to weave the philosophical themes inherent to the Blade Runner universe with the engaging gameplay dynamics reminiscent of the classic Nexus-6.
The official game description teased, ‘A journey from the crowded underground cities of 2065 New Zurich to the chilling ruins of a forgotten world… Tasked with eliminating Rev, the mysterious and ruthless leader of an underground network of replicants, you must survive in a brutal environment where you are betrayed and left for dead.’
Financially, the development budget was reportedly set around $45 million, with $9 million earmarked for outsourced performance capture and casting. Despite the promising development, the decision to cancel the project stemmed from Alcon Entertainment, the entity holding the rights to the Blade Runner franchise.
Looking ahead, Supermassive Games is shifting its focus to Directive 8020, which represents the next eagerly anticipated installment in the celebrated Dark Pictures Anthology series.
