In a groundbreaking achievement, SpaceX, the aerospace company helmed by entrepreneur Elon Musk, has successfully launched its first manned mission to Earth’s polar orbit. This mission, named ‘Fram2’, marks a significant step forward in civilian space exploration.
At precisely 21:46 local time, the Falcon-9 rocket, equipped with the Dragon spacecraft, lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. Onboard are four civilian astronauts: mission commander and cryptocurrency billionaire Chun Wang, Norwegian cinematographer Jannicke Mikkelsen, Australian polar researcher Eric Philips, and German robotics expert Rabea Rogge.
Following the successful launch, the Falcon-9’s reusable first stage booster performed a precision landing on the unmanned platform ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas’ in the Atlantic Ocean, showcasing SpaceX’s continued innovation in rocket recovery technology.
The mission is poised to reach an impressive altitude of 422 kilometers, operating within an orbital inclination range of 60 to 90 degrees. This trajectory enables the crew to conduct unprecedented observations of Earth’s polar regions, areas that have remained largely unexplored by the International Space Station (ISS).
Throughout the mission, which is expected to last between three to five days, the astronauts will undertake 22 scientific experiments. These experiments are designed to enhance understanding of human health and performance in space, laying the groundwork for future long-duration missions.
The mission’s conclusion remains flexible, contingent on the completion of scientific objectives, with a planned splashdown in the Pacific Ocean near Southern California.
