Massachusetts-based insurance company, The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., has taken a significant step in its leadership by appointing Richard W. Lavey to a newly established role as Chief Operating Officer (COO). This strategic move aims to bolster the company’s business strategy and enhance collaboration between its business and technology sectors.
In this expanded role, Lavey is set to further refine the insurer’s business strategy, driving integration and collaboration between the business and technology organizations. His responsibilities will also include enhancing agent and customer value propositions, ensuring that The Hanover continues to deliver exceptional service and innovative solutions.
Lavey will maintain his current responsibilities overseeing personal lines and core commercial operations, which encompasses the company’s small and middle market businesses. His purview also includes sales and distribution, corporate underwriting, marketing, and risk solutions functions. With over 35 years of industry experience, Lavey brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to The Hanover’s business and distribution model, having been part of the company since 2004.
Before joining The Hanover, Lavey was Vice President of strategic initiatives at The Hartford’s property and casualty organization and VP of strategic marketing for The Hartford’s Select Customer division. He started his career at The Travelers Insurance Company and is currently serving as Chair of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI).
