Oppo has introduced its next-generation foldable phone, the Find N5, and it has quickly gained attention for being the world’s thinnest book-style foldable model. This innovative device, known for its durability in previous company tests, recently underwent the rigorous endurance test conducted by renowned YouTuber Zack Nelson, also known as JerryRigEverything.
Analyzing the structural elements of the device, the outer screen is fortified with glass to resist scratches, whereas the inner screen possesses a more delicate composition. During the Mohs hardness test, the outer screen began to show scratches at level 6, while the inner screen exhibited marks as early as level 2. This stark contrast highlights the necessity of handling the inner screen with great care.
The test’s most noteworthy segment was the bending assessment. Nelson evaluated the hinge’s resistance to dust by introducing dust particles into the hinge structure, followed by switching the device off and on. Although the hinge is splash-resistant, it lacks similar protection against dust intrusion. Following this examination, dead pixel lines emerged on the inner screen, and the device’s foldable screen failed during the vertical bending test. In contrast, the OnePlus Open, a device with a comparable design, successfully passed this test. The variance may stem from the ultra-thin design of the Oppo Find N5, as thicker center frames may offer greater structural integrity, even when composed of the same materials.
Oppo’s internal tests previously claimed that the hinge could endure up to 50 kilograms of pressure. However, these tests conducted under controlled laboratory conditions do not necessarily equate to resistance against diverse pressures encountered in daily usage. Despite these findings, the Find N5’s hinge system is recognized for its overall robust build. Notably, the crease at the folding point is significantly less visible compared to its predecessor. This advancement in Oppo’s design and mechanical engineering is considered a significant leap forward in terms of aesthetics and user comfort.
