ToggleThe much-anticipated sequel to the Nintendo Switch, a leader in the gaming console market, has officially been released this week. The Nintendo Switch 2 promises substantial improvements over its predecessor, yet has sparked some disappointment among gamers regarding its display features.

Initially, Nintendo introduced the original Switch with an LCD screen and later enhanced the gaming experience with an OLED version. However, the new Nintendo Switch 2 continues to use an LCD screen, which has raised some eyebrows. Early assessments indicate that the screen brightness of the Nintendo Switch 2 ranges from 420 to 450 nits, with an estimated maximum brightness of 450 nits.
This level of brightness suggests potential challenges in delivering an optimal HDR experience since LCD screens often struggle with rendering deep blacks effectively. While docked, the HDR output is slightly improved, aligning more closely with other console versions in games like Cyberpunk 2077. Nonetheless, titles such as Zelda: Breath of the Wild exhibit a notably poor HDR performance.
The gaming community is keenly watching to see if Nintendo will address these display concerns through future software updates.
