Unnamed sources have criticized Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir for his comments suggesting that expanding military operations in Gaza does not jeopardize the safety of Israeli prisoners held there. They argue that his statements downplay the risks involved and question the feasibility of achieving the army’s goal of releasing all hostages.
Criticism of Political Leadership
The report also critiques the army’s leadership, quoting officials who describe Defense Minister Yisrael Katz as merely echoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with no independent stance expected from him. The dismissal of petition signatories calling for an end to the conflict is seen as potentially harming the army’s operational effectiveness.
Nearly 1,000 Israeli Air Force pilots and reservists, some retired, have publicly called for an end to military actions in Gaza. The number of signatories has reportedly surpassed 10,000, reflecting a significant movement within Israel pushing for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
