Instagram updates its iPad app with a familiar iPhone-style layout, bringing a more seamless and intuitive experience to larger screens.

Instagram has updated its iPad app after launching it last autumn, more than 15 years after the iPad’s debut. The latest version replaces the earlier full-screen video-focused design with a layout that more closely matches the iPhone app.

When the app first launched on iPad, users were presented primarily with an endless stream of short videos known as Reels. Stories appeared at the top of the screen, and messages were accessible with one tap. Standard photo posts were placed in a separate section under a tab labeled Following.
Following user criticism of this structure, Instagram has introduced a redesigned interface. The Home tab now functions in the same way as it does on the iPhone app, showing posts from followed accounts alongside recommended content.
Reels have been moved to a separate tab at the bottom of the screen instead of appearing first when the app opens. The Following tab has also been removed, as its function is now incorporated into the Home feed.
