Google continues to enhance its Messages app by incorporating standout features from leading messaging services. Recently, the company has begun a phased rollout of innovative functionalities such as Snooze Notifications and Delete for Everyone.
Snooze Notifications and Delete for Everyone
Several weeks back, Google initiated testing for these snooze and delete functionalities to provide users with a contemporary messaging experience. With testing now complete, these features are being made available to all users.
The introduction of snooze notifications is particularly noteworthy, offering a seamless way to manage incoming messages. Users can now opt to mute notifications for specific chats temporarily. This feature proves advantageous for those who prefer to address notifications at a more convenient time. By simply long-pressing on a conversation within the home screen, users can access the snooze notification options, which include durations of 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, and an option for Always. When a chat is snoozed, the thread becomes grayed out and a snooze icon appears below the date/time, indicating the status. This action can be reversed by holding down the message and selecting the clock icon. Importantly, the other party remains unaware when notifications are snoozed.
Additionally, the app now includes the ability to delete messages from both parties’ view, akin to features found on Telegram and WhatsApp. By long-pressing a sent message, users have access to Delete for Everyone and Delete for Me options. However, it is essential to note that if the recipient employs an older version of the app, they may still view the message thought to be deleted.
These enhancements to Google Messages began rolling out as part of the June 2025 update, further aligning the app with modern expectations in messaging functionality.
