While pumpkins glowed in Washington, protests erupted overseas. In Venezuela, thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets to denounce President Trump’s foreign policies. The tension stemmed from U.S. accusations against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom Washington has charged with involvement in narcotics trafficking. Further escalating matters, Trump reportedly granted the CIA expanded operational authority concerning Venezuela.
President Maduro publicly claimed that he was a direct target of these actions, accusing the U.S. of seeking intervention in his country’s affairs. Meanwhile, South American leaders, notably Colombian President Gustavo Petro, urged regional unity to resist any outside interference. Trump, however, amplified the controversy by branding Petro a “drug lord,” intensifying diplomatic strain across Latin America.
