A Cybertruck owner in California recently put Elon Musk’s bold statement to the test, only to find that the claim did not hold water—literally. Musk had confidently announced, “Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve as a boat for a short time, allowing it to cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that are not too choppy.” In a subsequent tweet, Musk elaborated that the Cybertruck could traverse roughly 10 kilometers in such conditions.
Inspired by Musk’s words, the driver engaged the Cybertruck’s special ‘Wade mode,’ designed to shield the battery from water exposure, and ventured to cross a river. Unfortunately, he encountered a setback when the vehicle became mired in mud, rendering it immobile. Contrary to Musk’s optimistic projection, this incident left the owner far from pleased, particularly when he discovered that the vehicle’s warranty did not extend to water-related damages incurred in this manner.
The incident caught the attention of local traffic police, who responded to assist the stranded driver. They humorously cautioned others on Facebook, “Remember folks, ‘Underwater Mode’ is not ‘Submarine Mode’.”
Interestingly, this is not an isolated incident. According to reports by the Independent, another owner recently shared a video depicting his Cybertruck malfunctioning after a routine car wash. Tesla’s user manual warns owners about the risks of washing the vehicle, particularly under direct sunlight, and provides guidance to avert potential damage.
In particular, Tesla advises that the Cybertruck should be placed in ‘Car Wash Mode’ to prevent issues with components like the charging port and wipers. As emphasized in the manual, “Damage caused during car washing is not covered under warranty.”
