Amwins Acquires Nelligan to Enhance Group Benefits Division

In a strategic move to bolster its group benefits division, Amwins has acquired Nelligan, an independent general agency renowned for its specialization in group ancillary benefits. This acquisition aims to augment Amwins’ existing ancillary solutions, which include state disability, paid family and medical leave (PFML), and life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D).

Founded in 2008, Nelligan has earned a reputation for excellence in the ancillary benefits sector. With approximately $850 million in in-force premiums, over 400 broker relationships, and partnerships with more than 80 carriers across the U.S., Nelligan brings substantial experience and outreach to the Amwins family. The integration will see Nelligan’s 52 employees and market directors joining Amwins’ group benefits team.

“We’re committed to becoming the premier Ancillary General Agency partner in the market,” stated Riva Dumeny, President of Amwins Group Benefits. “Nelligan’s deep expertise and robust market presence make them the ideal partner to help us realize this vision. Together, we are expanding our product capabilities, strengthening our relationships, and enhancing our ability to provide even greater value to our partners.”

Nelligan CEO Bryan Herman conveyed his optimism about the partnership’s potential. “Both Nelligan employees and our customers will benefit from access to resources that support growth, enabling us to expand our services and deliver even greater value to the employee benefit industry,” he remarked.

Chris Wirth, President of Nelligan, added, “I am excited to collaborate on building the largest, industry-leading ancillary general agency in the market. The future of employee benefits excellence is truly here.”

This acquisition complements Amwins’ comprehensive offerings in self-funded, fully insured, and customized employee benefits programs. It also enhances Amwins’ $10 billion in in-force benefits premium and strengthens its collaboration with major carriers nationwide.

Dowling Hales served as the exclusive financial advisor to Nelligan, while Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson provided legal counsel to Amwins.
