With the advent of the Steam Deck, the portable gaming console market has expanded significantly, prompting a surge in competition. Among the frontrunners is Zotac, which has officially announced the next iteration of its Zone series.
The upcoming model is set to feature the Linux-based Manjaro operating system alongside a premium OLED display, offering an intriguing alternative to SteamOS. This marks a departure from the previous model, which, despite its competitive hardware, faced criticism for its Windows 11 operating system.
Emulating Valve’s SteamOS, Zotac aims to create a distinctive platform with Manjaro Linux as its core. The company has also revealed plans for unveiling the console at Computex 2025. The device will boast a cutting-edge OLED display and be powered by the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, based on AMD’s Strix Point architecture. Notably, this processor is also at the heart of the Ryzen Z2 Extreme family.
As competition intensifies, Lenovo’s Legion GO 2 is also expected to feature the same chip by the end of the year. Meanwhile, questions linger on how Windows will adapt, given its previous admission that the OS can be cumbersome for handheld devices. Recently, a version of the ROG Ally with an Xbox logo surfaced, suggesting potential collaborations or optimizations.
Enthusiasts and industry watchers alike will be eager to see the full slate of developments at Computex 2025, particularly the debut of the Zotac Zone 2.
