ToggleRecent reports indicate that the much-anticipated Xbox handheld console project has been temporarily paused. Microsoft is redirecting its efforts towards enhancing its software capabilities. This strategic decision aims to ensure a seamless gaming experience upon release.
Microsoft had partnered with ASUS to develop the handheld device, internally referred to as Project Keenan. While the hardware development has reportedly been finalized, the company is taking a cautious approach due to software challenges. The goal is to optimize the gaming performance of Windows 11 before launching any new hardware.

Jez Corden from Windows Central shared insights about the suspension. According to Corden, both the ASUS collaboration and Microsoft’s in-house handheld projects are on hold. Although the projects are not canceled, the focus is on delivering robust software support to prevent any potential disappointment among gamers.
The information initially emerged in March, suggesting that the device would support PC Game Pass along with access to both Microsoft and Steam stores. The delay now leaves enthusiasts wondering when they will finally see these devices on the market. We will continue to monitor and report on future developments.
