TSMC, the preeminent player in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, has categorically dismissed recent claims regarding the establishment of a new production facility in the Middle East. During the company’s annual shareholder assembly, CEO C.C. Wei clarified that there are no intentions to inaugurate a factory in the region. Speculations had previously circulated about potential factory initiatives in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Clarification on Middle East Expansion Recent reports from Bloomberg suggested that TSMC was exploring the idea of constructing a new plant in the UAE and had engaged in discussions with Steve Witkoff, a U.S. special envoy to the Middle East. The proposed facility was rumored to mirror TSMC’s Fab 21 site in Arizona in terms of scale. Nevertheless, Wei has unequivocally refuted these assertions, emphasizing that such an endeavor does not align with the company’s strategic objectives. The absence of significant clientele in the Middle East further contributed to the decision to postpone any production establishment in the region for the time being.

Impact of Global Trade Dynamics Additionally, CEO Wei addressed the implications of international trade conflicts on TSMC. He highlighted that tariffs are levied on importers, which insulates TSMC from immediate impact, although potential price hikes might reduce aggregate demand. Wei noted that while a dip in demand could impact TSMC’s operations, the appetite for AI technology remains “consistently robust and consistently outstrips supply.”
