Samsung set for record profit surge as AI-driven memory chip demand fuels growth and boosts its global tech leadership.
South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics is preparing for an enormous leap in profit, spurred by the global surge in demand for artificial intelligence technologies. The company’s recent earnings forecast indicates that an unprecedented wave of memory chip demand has propelled its business to historic highs, especially in the final quarter of the previous year.
According to preliminary figures, Samsung achieved nearly 93 trillion won (approximately $64 billion) in consolidated revenue during the final quarter, while operating profits are estimated to have reached 20 trillion won ($13.8 billion). Compared to the previous year’s results, this represents a 23% increase in revenue and nearly threefold growth in profit—marking the company’s most profitable quarter ever. Full financial details will be released by Samsung on January 29.

ToggleThe key factor behind this surge lies in the unrelenting demand for high-performance memory chips—including DRAM, NAND, and HBM—used extensively in artificial intelligence computation. Companies such as Nvidia, AMD, Google, and Microsoft are investing heavily in memory technologies required to train and operate complex AI models. This new wave of demand has shifted the entire semiconductor market dynamic, redirecting production capacity from standard memory products to AI-centric components.
As major manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron prioritize high-margin AI memory orders, a supply shortage has emerged in traditional computing and mobile sectors. Consequently, memory prices have climbed sharply, benefiting leading producers. Despite earlier challenges with HBM3 and HBM3E chip certification from Nvidia, Samsung secured approval for HBM3E-based components last year and is reported to have recently gained a green light for HBM4 memory.

Recent market analysis by Counterpoint Research describes the current memory environment as entering a ‘Hyper-Bull’ era, surpassing even the record activity of 2018. The firm’s estimates suggest that memory prices could jump between 40–50% through late 2025, with an additional 20% increase expected in mid-2026. This trajectory underscores the immense profitability awaiting memory producers in the near future.

Over the past twelve months, Samsung’s stock value has soared by more than 145%, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s semiconductor dominance. Analysts estimate that roughly 15 trillion won of the fourth-quarter operating income originated from Samsung’s Device Solutions division, which manages its semiconductor operations. Meanwhile, the MX unit handling smartphones likely generated between 2 and 3 trillion won in profit. Samsung’s foundry operations also reduced losses, while its consumer electronics branch (Samsung DX) faced tighter competition. Samsung Display, on the other hand, continues to sustain profitability thanks to its premium screen technologies.
