Samsung has finally unveiled the much-anticipated ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge, setting new benchmarks for smartphone design. Measuring a mere 5.8 mm in thickness and weighing just 163 g, this model seamlessly integrates top-tier features into an exceptionally slim and lightweight form.

To achieve this remarkable thinness without sacrificing durability or performance, Samsung employs titanium bezels, known for their strength and lightness. The device also boasts Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front, paired with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, marking a first for the series in enhanced durability.

The true innovation, however, lies beneath the surface. Samsung has pioneered a novel mounting system for the internal structure of the phone, enabling component placement with 0.1 mm precision. This precision is crucial for achieving thinness while maintaining optimum performance.

The 200 MP camera module has undergone significant optimization, reducing its thickness by 10% by refining the [autofocus] and optical image stabilization hardware. Additionally, a two-layer camera housing design further minimizes the module’s profile.

Powering the Galaxy S25 Edge is the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, shared with other models in the series. To address potential cooling challenges posed by the slim chassis, Samsung has incorporated a vapour chamber that’s 10% larger than that of the S25 Plus. The metal frame features a unique “hole structure” design, facilitating direct heat transfer from the chipset to the vapour chamber. This system works in tandem with a specially formulated thermal interface to efficiently dissipate heat from other components.

Despite these advancements, some tests indicate that the Galaxy S25 Edge may not sustain performance as effectively as the S25 Plus under prolonged heavy loads. Furthermore, the 3900 mAh battery, considered modest by today’s standards, could be a concern for power users. Those seeking an ultra-thin, lightweight flagship should weigh these factors carefully.
