Residents in the Basque region of southern France experienced a temporary power outage on Monday. This disruption was attributed to a significant electrical failure impacting both Spain and Portugal.

The French power grid operator, RTE, confirmed the incident in a recent statement. RTE has been actively working to support the Spanish grid operator during this crisis.

Restoration Efforts

RTE successfully restored 700 MW of electricity consumption in Spain through connections with France. This crucial intervention helped alleviate some of the blackout’s impact across Spain and Portugal.

Further Assistance Plans

Moreover, RTE expressed its readiness to increase assistance up to 950 MW as soon as the Iberian grid, which includes both Spain and Portugal, is technically capable of receiving this additional support.
