In a significant update, OpenAI is extending its ChatGPT memory capabilities to all free users. Initially exclusive to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers, this feature enhancement now allows the AI to remember user interactions, offering more personalized and context-aware responses. Additionally, Codex, the innovative coding assistant, is being introduced to Plus members.
With this update, millions of free users can now access short-term memory features in their interactions. For instance, if you previously mentioned a preference for Indian cuisine, ChatGPT can recall this and suggest Indian dishes when you inquire, “What should I have for lunch today?” However, free users will experience memory capabilities that favor short-term continuity between chats, unlike the more comprehensive long-term memory available to Plus and Pro subscribers. These paid versions offer responses based on a deeper understanding and more extended recollection of user preferences.
OpenAI is also making Codex available to Plus users. This AI-driven coding assistant, launched last month, automates code creation, debugging, and testing, and was previously accessible only to Pro, Enterprise, and Team subscribers. Codex can be independently accessed at chatgpt.com/codex, enabling users to generate code through simple text commands, enhance existing code, run tests, and manage multiple tasks with continuity. OpenAI highlights that Plus members will enjoy generous usage limits with this new feature.
