Nvidia’s introduction of the RTX 50 series was not without its challenges, as users faced unexpected hurdles such as stock shortages, display driver issues, and missing ROP units. These problems significantly impacted the initial reception of the new graphics cards. However, in response, Nvidia is developing ‘SUPER’ models for the GeForce RTX 50 lineup, aiming to address these concerns and boost their appeal.
According to recent leaks, the GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER will feature an impressive 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, while the RTX 5070 SUPER is expected to offer 18 GB. This substantial increase in VRAM marks a 50% improvement over the existing RTX 5080’s 16 GB and the RTX 5070’s 12 GB models. The use of 3 GB GDDR7 modules aligns with prior leaks from MSI, suggesting a well-thought-out upgrade.
While the ‘SUPER’ models are not anticipated to offer a significant performance leap over the current versions, the enhanced VRAM capacity could prove advantageous in memory-intensive tasks like AI processing and certain gaming scenarios. Furthermore, Nvidia intends to improve stock availability with the new series, addressing the shortages that marred the initial RTX 50 series launch, which had a negative impact on Nvidia’s brand image.
Although Nvidia has not disclosed a specific release date for the RTX 50 SUPER models, it is speculated that an announcement might occur at Computex 2025. Historically, Nvidia has released SUPER cards at least a year following the main lineup, suggesting a strategic timeline for this new series.
