Call him hilarious. Call him laugh-out-loud funny. But whatever you do, call him Bean. In the comedy that took America by storm, Rowan Atkinson plays the outrageous Mr. Bean, who is sent on an unlikely mission to California. His task? To escort the world-renowned painting of “Whistler’s Mother” to its new home at The Grierson Gallery.
What the gallery owner, one of the wealthiest men in America, and his curator, David Langley (portrayed by Peter MacNicol), believe is that Mr. Bean is actually Dr. Bean, a famed art expert. In reality, he is merely a sleepy-headed, wildly eccentric museum guard. He also happens to be the clumsiest, most unpredictable character they have ever encountered—certainly not someone to whom you’d entrust one of the world’s most valuable artworks.
Yet, that’s precisely what happens. Mr. Bean’s presence leads to havoc within the Grierson Gallery and chaos in Langley’s personal life. As the clock ticks down to the official unveiling by the museum’s benefactor, General Newton (played by the legendary Burt Reynolds), disaster strikes: something terrible has happened to “Whistler’s Mother.” Only one man can set things right, and that man is Bean.
